On January 20, 2023 I embarked on a project.
I had no end goal, or really any sense of what it would become – I had only a question.
Who am I?
Today. In this moment. Post-college. Post (kinda) pandemic. In between jobs and living situations.
The only tool I had in hopes of answering this question was a pen and a sketchbook.
What started as a daily habit morphed into a meditation practice.
My daily self-portrait grounded me on chaotic days, frustrated me on challenging ones, and served as a joyful reflection of memories that I never want to forget.
I mixed mediums and art styles. I wrote poetry and made collages.
I moved cities and left relationships and started new jobs.
I drew and painted and colored.
I didn’t stop when I hit 1 year. I didn’t stop when I hit 2 years.
On October 16th, 2025 I will have made 1000 self portraits. Three years of my life captured between the binding of 8 sketchbooks.
“Who am I?”
I have 1000 answers and still no clue.
But my desire to lean into the question and see what art arises from the exploration is stronger than ever.
