Anna Kosiarek

Actor | Performer | Improviser | Poet | Artist

Anna Kosiarek is an actor, improviser, trained combatant, and published poet.

If there is a story to tell, she wants to be a part of it.

Since childhood, Anna has embraced life with an unbridled curiosity and joyful spirit. Her family constantly moved while she was growing up, giving her the skill of adaptability and the gift of experiencing cultures outside of her own. This exposure to traditions, languages, people, and stories blossomed into a love of art and expression in all forms – theater, dance, improvisation, comedy, poetry, painting, and all of the mediums she has yet to explore!

Currently residing in Oakland, California, she has performed across the East Bay, with notable roles including Alicia in The Thanksgiving Play at Altarena Playhouse, Evie in In Love and Warcraft at City Lights Theater Company, and Sister James in Altarena Playhouse’s Doubt, which went on to win the San Francisco Bay Area Theatre Critics Circle award for “Best Performance in the East Bay 2024.”

She is making her San Francisco Opera debut in September in Dead Man Walking, and can be seen in the upcoming production of The Wisdom of Eve at the Altarena Playhouse in the role of Eve Harrington.

Before moving to the Bay in 2023, she performed in the Pennsylvania Renaissance Faire as an actor and stage combat fighter, then toured the country in True To Life, a Jay Frankel production. She studied acting at Carnegie Mellon University and graduated with a BFA in Theater and Performance and a minor in Creative Writing from Emerson College.

Performing and creating at night, she spends her days teaching preschool in the forests of Marin. Teaching exclusively in the great outdoors allows her to impart her own love of mother earth to the next generation – though she learns even more from the children than she could ever hope to teach.

When she isn’t on stage or teaching, she wanders the Redwood forests looking for inspiration for her paintings and poetry, picks up trash along the shores of Lake Merritt, dances at her local pole dance studio, and reads on the couch with her perfect cat, Chloe.

“But it’s Alicia, played with comic ridiculousness by Anna Kosiarek, who steals the… show.”

-theaterstorm.com

As Eve, Anna Kosiarek projects a convincing innocence at the start, and is very good at only gradually revealing the worm at the core of her polished and tempting apple. She is superb as the girl whom everybody wants to help. Until they live to regret it.

-Broadwayworld.com

“Kosiarek makes Alicia not only believable but also shows how her simplistic approach can not only hurt others, but also hurt herself. Maintaining focus while appearing to not have a thought in your head is difficult to do, and Kosiarek nails it.”

“Anna Kosiarek as Sister James is sneaky. You think it’s a simple character, but she quickly shows you that even naivety and kindness have depths and shadows.”

-Alameda Post

“Kosiarek plays Sister James, the younger nun and teacher at the school, with sincere timidity and bridled joy. Her innocence and uncertainty is ours and is wonderfully portrayed.”

The show is headlined by Anna Kosiarek as Eve Harrington. She is lovely in the opening scenes, reeling us all in to root for the fresh-faced girl.”

-cordellreports.com

“Anna Kosiarek plays Sister James… with great skill. Although Sister James’s faith seems unshaken, Kosiarek shows a wide-eyed innocence and a great range of emotions in response to Aloysius’s rigidity…”

-front row review

Kosiarek’s notable ability to shift demeanor—changing expressions, posture, and tone in an instant—makes Eve’s duplicity both believable and engaging.

-talkinbroadway.com

“Anna Kosiarek is immediately likeable as the powerful online warrior whose real-world self is often awkward, self-deprecating, and yet suddenly silly, but who melts into a puddle of gushes…when she is around Raul.”

-alameda post

Eve, played by Anna Kosiarek—who was outstanding as Sister James in last season’s Doubt—has a singular objective of getting onstage so she can show her skills…Kosiarek is oh-gosh innocent and charming until she begins to wreck everyone around her to get famous.”
